The second image shows the sea wall of the Ellis Landing Shellmound as it appeared in 1906 prior to excavation. A shellmound or midden is a wasteland used by previous human settlements, which accumulated with domestic waste containing shells, animal bones, human excrement, vermin and other ecological and human waste products.
