The Guadalcanal Campaign, also known as the Battle of Guadalcanal, was fought in the Pacific theatre of World War II from August 7, 1942, to February 9, 1943 around the island of Guadalcanal. The battle was issued to prevent the Japanese from adding strategically placed air fields, and to protect Australia from invasion.
