1929 Photogravure Kayan Lahwi Giraffe Women Padaung Long Neck Coils Rings Burma XGQC9 This is an original 1933This is an original 1929 photogravure of women at a market in Burma (Myanmar). The women are shown wearing coils around their necks. These women are known as the Kayan Lahwi, or, Giraffe Neck Women. The girls begin wearing rings when they are two years old, and the amount of coils gradually increases to as many as 20. A long neck is considered beautiful in the culture, and although it poses no known health risks, the coils push the ribs and collarbone
